講題:Formulas for studying dual-typhoon interactions & super-typhoon formation, and vulnerability assessment frameworks with earth observations & GIS

摘要:This speech begins with an overview of the main research tasks conducted at the Hydrology Remote Sensing Laboratory in recent years to resolve the challenges that the human beings are facing. The tasks include applications of space-borne and air-borne remote sensing data, and in-situ and census data to key environmental issues relevant to hydrological cycles, such as shortage of water (drought), abundant of water (typhoon, flooding), surface water availability (NDLI index development, Liou et al. 2019a), urban heat island effect (heat stress risk, greenspace), eco-environmental vulnerability assessment (EVA) (human and nature disturbances), etc.
Subsequently, the speech presents the use of remote sensing data for the analysis and interpretation of dual-typhoon interactions and super-typhoon formation with emphasis on the development of the Liou-Liu empirical formulas (Liou et al. 2016). The formulas successfully quantify the threshold distance for dual-vortex interactions based on a variety cases (Liou et al. 2018, 2019b). Finally, the speech is concluded with implementing our developed EVA frameworks to generate vulnerability and adaptive capacity maps in response to typhoons (Nguyen et al. 2019).
